FAQs on Progesterone Cream and CBD

Progesterone Cream

Fertility and menstruation are largely controlled by hormones, and one of these hormones is progesterone.  Progesterone Cream is bioidentical, meaning it is identical to what the body produces.   Progesterone is a steroid hormone belonging to a class of hormones called progestogens. It is secreted by the corpus luteum, a temporary endocrine gland that the female body produces after ovulation during the second half of the menstrual cycle.

Progesterone is a precursor to most of the other steroid hormones, including cortisol, androstenedione, the estrogens and even testosterone.

In a normally cycling female, the corpus luteum produces 20 to 30 mg of progesterone daily during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.

Progesterone cream is best applied to areas of the body where the cream can be absorbed best by the skin.   Generally, areas that have increased blood flow are ideal.

Apply cream to the soft skin of the inner arms, inner thighs, abdomen or chest. Much of the absorption will occur through the palms of your hands while rubbing it in, so rub it in well before washing your hands. Want to try it on your face or neck? Try a small area first to ensure you tolerate it as these areas can be more sensitive in some individuals.

A particular study found that the face area absorbed better than most areas except the genitalia and underarms which posted close to 100% absorption[1]    Progesterone Cream absorbs readily in the body as it bypasses the liver and is utilized in certain hormone receptors just as a women’s own progesterone is.

The quick answer is that progesterone cream is best applied to areas of the body where the cream can be absorbed best by the skin.  It is not important to target a specific body part of concern for fat loss.  Instead, apply to areas that have increased blood flow.  These areas include the hands, the face, chest, breasts and inner arms and inner thigh areas.

One of the known “side effects” of applying progesterone cream is sleepiness.  The duration and deepness of sleep is significantly pronounced after applying progesterone cream.  Some studies have polygraphically recorded as much as a 45% to 50% improvements in these two factors.  Read more here

Progesterone cream is absorbed in the skin readily and immediately reaches hormone receptors bypassing the liver, providing a more quick and pronounced effect. As such, if the recommended dispensed 20mg is applied, the desired results can be achieved sooner.

If you no longer menstruate (post-menopausal, hysterectomy, or ablation) you can use the cream daily.

If you still menstruate, you can use the cream for the last 2 weeks of your menstrual cycle. If you’ve never counted the days in your cycle before then this is a good time to start. Day 1 is your first day of bleeding and the cycle length is counted from the first day of bleeding to the next cycle’s first day of bleeding. Ovulation, or the release of an egg from the ovary, generally happens about 14 days before bleeding (menstruation) so if you have a 28 day cycle, you will use the cream from day 14-28, or from ovulation until menses.  If your cycle is longer, like 30 days, then you will use the cream from days 16 to 30 of your cycle. Can’t bear being off the cream as your symptoms seem all month long? Stop use while menstruating, then resume for the remainder of your cycle.

It’s important to get your hormone levels tested. but certain signals indicating low progesterone hormone levels include an irregular menstrual cycle, infertility issues, unexplained mood changes and/or weight gain, and fibroids or endometriosis.

As women age the ratio of progesterone to estrogen decreases causing a range of symptoms including weight gain, hot flashes, reduced libido, mood swings, depression, insomnia, fatigue and vaginal dryness. Women can reverse these effects by balancing the ratio of progesterone to estrogen.

Supplementing with progesterone is not going to start or stop your period. Progesterone is a hormone that normally rises AFTER ovulation. In fact, there is the potential for progesterone to prevent ovulation because it can suppress the hormones needed to get a follicle growing.

The menstrual cycle occurs in three phases: the follicular phase, ovulation, and the luteal phase. On the first day of your cycle, which is the first day of your period, progesterone levels are low.  During the middle of the luteal phase, progesterone levels soar to an average of 25mg daily.   This signals the uterine lining to shed.  Except if progesterone levels don’t reach the ideal level, irregular periods or spotting can occur.

The progesterone in a progesterone cream mimics the components of both ovulation and menstruation. This progesterone production and the triggering of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) that stimulates the corpus luteum in the ovaries may increase the production of more progesterone. One of the main actions of progesterone with fertility is to help support a developing embryo. The best time to start using our progesterone cream for fertility help is as soon as it’s discovered progesterone levels are low.

It’s important to keep the various levels of hormones including progesterone and estrogen in balance.

Progesterone naturally increases as the female body prepares for fertilization, but too much progesterone can be linked to symptoms associated with premenstrual syndrome or PMS, including breast swelling. breast tenderness and bloating.

So it’s important to “mimic” the natural monthly cycle with the correct amount of progesterone depending on that time of month.

As mentioned in the FAQ question above, if you are no longer menstruating, you can use your progesterone cream daily without worry of having too much progesterone based on the recommended application.

About 20% of women that are going through the normal midlife reproductive transition known as perimenopause suffer from various symptoms of low progesterone.   Many find relief with mimicking earlier life, levels of progesterone.   Excellent article here

For women deficient in progesterone,  we recommend cycling with progesterone to mimic the normal ebb and flow of progesterone levels experienced during a cycle.  Some women have reported non-serious side effects such as moderate weight gain, drowsiness, tender breasts, oily skin and acne, among others.

Each of these may also indicate the intent of supplementing to balance hormones was not achieved.   We highly recommend a safe and inexpensive home testing kit to get your numbers in check prior and during use.

Progesterone cream, when applied directly to highly vascular skin areas (hands, underarms, inner thights, etc.), can help with issues as diverse as fatigue, unexplained weight gain, tender breasts, hot flashes and general hormone imbalances.

Bioidentical progesterone has an identical molecular structure of the hormone made naturally by the body.  The most effective form of bioidentical progesterone is called micronized progesterone USP. Micronizing provides for steady absorption.

Since a progesterone cream is not classified as a drug by the FDA, it is important to state that when progesterone levels are normal, the usual symptoms of a hormone imbalance, some of which are described above, will dissipate.

Progesterone is a hormone made in the body.  A bioidentical progesterone is molecularly an exact replica of what the body makes.  So the “risks” are similar to what occurs when the human body produces too much progesterone.

There are no known serious medical consequences due to the body making too much progesterone, but some women have reported weight gain, PMS, oily skin and other conditions normally associated with hormone imbalances.  It’s important to test hormone levels and women that still menstruate should maintain the right progesterone amount at the appropriate luteal time period of their monthly.

Progesterone cream, when we are referring to bioidentical, won’t cause weight gain.  It’s important to consider what part of the “reproductive cycle” you are in to gain a better understanding…even if you are post-menopause.   Meaning that the change in hormone levels can affect your appetite.

After ovulation occurs, progesterone rises, increasing metabolism and appetite.   But it’s hunger levels which lead to more food intake.  For menopausal and post-menopausal women, the bioidentical progesterone has the same effect as the body’s own progesterone.

bioidentical progesterone cream induces weight loss.  Some women may experience weight gain in the initial few months of using our progesterone cream, but as they become more in balance, the body tends to shift back into equilibrium.  Progesterone is known as an efficient calorie burner leading to weight loss!

If you have spotting between periods, abnormal vaginal dryness, painful periods, depression, mood swings or anxiety, low sex drive, constant headaches or tender breasts, these may all be signs of low progesterone. Your progesterone levels can be checked very easily.

Progesterone cream is best used twice daily, morning and bedtime.

Don’t apply immediately before showering or exercising. Give it 30 minutes or more to fully absorb or use it afterwards.

HOW MUCH

Apply 20 mg of progesterone per application (4 pumps).

Some women choose to use more at bedtime to support relaxation and sleep. Try using 5 pumps at bedtime for a few nights in a row to see how that works for you.

Standard dose not doing the trick? Double your application for a few cycles to see if that works better.

Feeling too relaxed at standard dose? Then try using half as much per application. We are all individuals so you should adjust as needed.

As explained earlier, estrogen dominance is a term that describes a condition where the normal balance of estrogen to progesterone is changed by excess estrogen or inadequate progesterone. Estrogen is a potent and potentially dangerous hormone when not balanced by adequate progesterone.

Women suffering from pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) to women suffering from menopausal symptoms, will recognize the hallmark symptoms of estrogen dominance: weight gain, bloating, mood swings, irritability, tender breasts, headaches, fatigue, depression, hypoglycemia, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and fibrocystic breasts.

Estrogen dominance is known to cause and/or contribute to cancer of the breast, ovary and endometrium (uterus).

There are few scientists or medical doctors with significant experience in the CBD industry.  Hemp has been illegal for many years in the United States until the passage of the Hemp Farming Act of 2018, passed on December 20, 2018.  Prior, it was difficult to research, develop, and understand the many aspects of a hemp plant.  Cannabidiol, aka CBD, is one of 104 chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. CBD can be derived from marijuana, or from its genetic cousin, hemp. Unlike THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is not psychoactive, but has been proven to have many different therapeutic effects. CBD does so by interacting with the receptors of the human body’s endocannabinoid system, which helps regulate pain, appetite, mood, memory, immunity, and sleep. Because CBD has been until very recently a schedule 1 substance banned by federal statute, scientific research is still in its early phases, but there is emerging evidence that CBD may help relieve an amazing array of conditions and ailments.   For more on CBD, please see our earlier section by clicking HERE.

“Nanoemulsion” or “nanotechnology” is an under-developed methodology not previously paired with a micronized progesterone drug and CBD.  Nanotechnology manipulates atoms, molecules, and supramolecular formations, reducing their scale to between 1 and 100 nanometers (nm).  This process reduces particles to one-millionth of their original size and even greater.  The technical expertise we employ in creating a “bioavailable” nanosized CBD compound in a laboratory testing environment combined with both bioidentical progesterone and nanosized progesterone can escalate the medical and health benefits with different combinations and doses. Nanosizing increases the bioavailability of CBD and Progesterone exponentially and permits an easier distribution through the body and increases the delivery time.  For more on CBD, please our earlier section by clicking HERE.

There is a lot of confusion, even with experts in hormone balancing, between the terms progesterone, progestin, and progestogen. Each are quite different. According to Women in Balance, http:womeninbalance.org, “progesterone” refers to the hormone produced in the body, or produced from a plant source but still chemically and structurally identical to human progesterone, and it is therefore referred to as “bioidentical” or “natural”. “progestin” is a synthetically produced hormone, and various types used in hormone therapy. Yet, progesterone is a singular molecule. refers to a hormone that is synthetically produced and differs in structure from progesterone. There are numerous synthetic progestins used in hormone therapy, in contrast to only one molecule referred to as progesterone. “Progestogen” is a general term for hormones that act like progesterone in the uterus, and therefore includes both progesterone and progestins. We know that these various progestins don’t mimic progesterone at the target tissue level. Unfortunately, the use of progestins were used in clinical trials in the early 70s and were shown to increase the risk of breast cancer. More unfortunate, is the studies never included natural bio identical progesterone and too many potential women that can benefit from natural progesterone don’t realize that there is a difference.

In the years leading up to menopause, many women regularly have anovulatory cycles in which they make enough estrogen to create menstruation, but they don’t make any progesterone, thus setting the stage for estrogen dominance.  Higher progesterone levels during anovulatory months can help prevent the symptoms of PMS.

We now know that PMS can occur despite normal progesterone levels when stress is present. Stress increases cortisol production; cortisol blockades (or competes for) progesterone receptors. Additional progesterone is required to overcome this blockade.  We also assert that CBD may provide an entourage effect with respect  to reduction of cortisol.

We strongly encourage our valued customers to test their progesterone levels regularly and work with their health care professional that is trained in bioidentical hormone replacement and supplementation. Individual results certainly will vary. Yet, this is what we do know.  Since we use nano-emulsisions, fat levels tend to reach saturation much faster and continued doses result in an increase in progesterone levels and therefore a quicker and stronger physiological effect. Thus, some women notice results immediately.

Felicity Organics products should be stored in a cool, dark place, and away from humidity. Our main progesterone cream is packaged in a double insulated airglass container. This is double protection to preserve and protect the precious ingredients inside each jar.

The USP progesterone used for hormone replacement comes from plant fats and oils, usually a substance called diosgenin which is extracted from a very specific type of wild yam that grows in Mexico.

We use an Airless Glass Technology for our container.  This is innvoation with packing that keeps the good stuff inside away from the bad stuff outside!   Airless technology is the future of the cosmetic, beauty and medical packaging industry.  Our customers only deserve the best.

A conventional bottle pumps product from the bottom of the bottle but doesn’t once the contents of the container are low, the pump does not extract the last bit. We don’t want our customers resorting to opening the container and exposing the organic ingredients to bacteria and oxidization.  This can contribute to loss of effectiveness. Not to mention messy and frustrating! One of our many reasons for this choice of container.

Our innovative airless glass container consists of a bottle container, a plastic piston apparatus inside a diaphragm in the body and a pump head at the mouth of the bottle. When the pump is depressed, the piston moves upward inside the diaphragm.

Pressure works to fill the empty cavity from the bottom and then dispenses the contents uniformly. As our quantity per serving is concise and measured, this assures an exact measurement for serving size.  With something as important as what’s in the formulation, the accuracy of dosage is critical.
